Generation 2

Generation 2 Overview

In 1991 after the release of several unsuccessful transformers toy lines, such as the Micro-masters and the Action-masters Hasbro decided it was time to end the G1 line as a result of the poor sales they had. However near the end of 1992 Hasbro decided to try again releasing some TFs but this time it was under a new name, Transformers generation 2.

New comics with new characters were released, accompanied by a new toy line, which began at first as just a set of repaints of previously released toys, such as the turbo-masters, and ended by a few new toys, such as the famous G2 tank megatron.

As for the show, nothing was new. It was just the same G1 episodes with a CGI intro, advertisement brakes and the sibertronian space cube, which was a CGI cube that separated the cartoon scenes just as the autobot and decepticon symbols did in the G1 episodes.

With the end of 1995, Hasbro decided to end the G2 line, just after 3 years of it's release as it didn't achieve what was expected.
